A fantastic display of music, marching and tradition.

Members of the Irish Guards Association North of England Branch are invited to attend the City of Liverpool Armed Forces Day Event 2026, taking place on Castle Street in Liverpool City Centre.

This special event will feature a military music spectacular performed by two of the city’s best-known military bands:

  • The Band of The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment
  • The Pipes and Drums of the Liverpool Scottish Regimental Association

The afternoon promises a fantastic display of military music, marching, and Regimental tradition, with music old and new alongside a number of crowd favourites. The event is open to the general public, veterans, serving personnel, and families.

Event Timings

  • 12:00 – Muster for all attendees
  • 12:40 – VIP briefing at Liverpool Town Hall
  • 12:45 – Bands and standards form up
  • 13:00 – Parade steps off onto Castle Street
  • 14:00 – Event concludes

Parade Information

The Duke of Lancaster’s Band and associated standards will form up on High Street before marching into Castle Street and towards Brunswick Street before counter-marching back to the performance area.

Veterans wishing to join the parade following the drummer’s call should make their way promptly to Brunswick Street, where they will form up under the direction of the Parade Sergeant Major.

Please note:

  • There will be no separation of Associations or Services
  • Veterans will form up as a single column
  • The parade will move promptly with no delays for late arrivals

This is a fantastic opportunity to support Armed Forces Day in Liverpool, reconnect with fellow veterans and associations, and celebrate the contribution of the Armed Forces community.

Parade and Performance Information

The full military parade and performance display on Castle Street, featuring the Band of The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment and the Pipes and Drums of the Liverpool Scottish Regimental Association.

The parade route and performance area will be centred around Castle Street and Liverpool Town Hall, with standards, bands and veterans taking part throughout the afternoon.

Form Up and Muster

All participants are requested to muster from 12:00 PM, with bands and standards forming up from 12:45 PM on High Street adjacent to Liverpool Town Hall.

The Duke of Lancaster’s Band and associated standards will form up before stepping off at 1:00 PM, marching onto Castle Street and into the main performance area.

Veterans wishing to take part should make their way to the designated forming up point on Brunswick Street following the drummer’s call, should one take place.

Performance Area

The central performance area will be located on Castle Street directly outside Liverpool Town Hall.

During the event:

  • Standard bearers will line the performance area
  • Drum Majors and musical directors will coordinate movements from the centre of the formation
  • The Drum Corps performances will take place individually in front of the Town Hall balcony and VIP area
  • The Duke of Lancaster’s Band and Liverpool Scottish Pipes & Drums will each perform manoeuvres and counter-marches within the performance box

Veterans Information

Veterans are encouraged to attend and support the event. A suggested viewing and meeting-up area will be available close to Brunswick Street.

Please note:

  • Veterans will form as a single body regardless of association or service
  • Parade movements will operate to strict timings
  • There will be no delays for late arrivals once the march-off begins

March Off

Following the performances and National Anthem:

  • The Liverpool Scottish Pipes & Drums will march off first with standards following behind
  • The Duke of Lancaster’s Band will then counter-march and lead the veterans’ march-off from Castle Street

This promises to be a spectacular afternoon celebrating the Armed Forces community in the heart of Liverpool, with military music, Regimental tradition and veteran participation throughout.
